Is there a way I can define a variable globally in ISC workflows.
For ex - If define a variable in first step of the workflow & then I want to modify value in that variable based on a Compare String operator in a later step.
If True - Yes
If False - No
Is it possible to update the same variable ? The “Define Variable” action has limited scope.
Hi @IAM_Tanay I don’t think we can actually go back in the same workflow and OVERWRITE a previously defined variable in a Define Variable Operator - not without declaring a new variable, grabbing the previously defined value and doing something with it in the context of a new variable, for example, a complete replace.
For example:
Define variable Operator 1:
name: hardCode
Value: TEXT - “hardCodedString”
Define variable Operator 2
name: newVar
Value: ATTRIBUTE > Choose Variable > Select the first Define Variable step > select the var called hardCode > click APPLY
You can’t do this in a single Define Variable Operator step, because you need to be able to call back to a previous step/data. I couldn’t find a way to get a handle to the current variables in the same step to be able to substring, concat, or replace. But this “replaced” value could be called up and used/based on your compare strings operator maybe?
Does make sense? Would an idea like this work for you?
True @IAM_Tanay not right now, but I doubt this is the end of the story for Workflows. I would label Workflows a “critical” configuration element. We all look forward to possible, future enhancements for workflows!
