Quicklink based approach for access request

Hi,

We have a requirement to raise an access request for entitlements from a separate quick link other than manage user access because of some complexities involved. So here is the requirement we need to click on new access request quick link developed by us and when user clicks on the quick link user should select the applications available in the SailPoint. In our case its 700+ applications and once the user selects the application the list of entitlements of that application should be displayed where he can select the entitlements and select the operation and raise a request. Is this approach viable for this large number of applications? will this approach cause any performance issues. Please let us know if anyone has idea over this approach.

Thanks in advance,

Naveen

'm interested in understanding the challenges you anticipate when it comes to out-of-the-box functionalities. With numerous applications and entitlements, the extent of customization required could potentially lead to performance issues.

I understand that your situation may have distinct requirements, but I recommend maximizing the use of out-of-the-box functionality. Introducing customization can lead to increased maintenance, additional overhead, and the introduction of complexity to the solution.

Thanks for your reply. Some of the challenges are related to the data model of the application and the other common issues are related to the search functionality of the OOTB access request screen.

For e.g., End users need to select the entitlement application to limit the search result. Otherwise if without selecting that if we search based on keyword then any application entitlement matching that particular word/string is returned in the result and it makes difficult for requestor to select from the search result.

HI Teresa, Can u please help us to understand over the above issue. Thanks in advance,Naveen

How would the custom quicklink be different from Manage User Access quicklink? It is not clear what is going to be different, as your description of the function does seem like your basic out of the box behavior.

Many customers do have customized quicklinks for specific requests or requirements, so you may review this article on how to set up a custom quicklink: Steps to create QuickLink category and QuickLink - Compass (sailpoint.com)

Hi @teresa_warren

Thank you for your response. We have developed few quicklink based custom forms to be able to implement the complex access request form requirements for customer. Also OOTB Manage Access - Search tile list all the entitlements across any application if it matches the given search keyword - this lead the discussion of the implementation of custom quicklink based forms for odd 700+ applications.

We wanted to know is it a viable approach to do so. Does SailPoint platform supports 700+ custom forms development? Any impact on the performance of the application server?

Thanks,

Pallavi

Thanks,

Displaying 700+ applications in the drop down list and then based on user application selection, displaying all the entitlements related to the selected application can cause some latency and may take few minutes to load in the UI. This can be even slower if the applications have many entitlements. I would say doable but not recommended approach.

Thanks,

Binod

I did not realize the intent was to separate all of these applications. As Binod indicated, this does not seem like a good idea. I think it would be difficult to maintain through upgrades, and it is not going to be performant.

You can certainly test in a lower environment but remember that these environments don’t always have the load on them that a Prod environment does and so sometimes you do not see performance issues until the update is promoted to higher environments.
