Installing Quick Fixes

The process described in this section details how to download a Quick Fix and install it onto your Mainframe system. They apply to most Quick Fixes, unless there are exceptions listed in the description for the specific Quick Fix.

To install a Quick Fix:

  1. Download the Quick Fix for your system. It consists of a zip file.
  2. Unzip the file on your computer. The unzipped Quick Fix file is in binary format.
  3. Use a FTP or a TN3270 transfer tool with binary mode to send these fixes to the Mainframe system to a FIX library. The FIX library should have the following attributes:
    • Organization . . . : PO
    • Record format . . . : FB
    • Record length . . . : 80
    • Block size . . . . : 6160
Alternatively, you can use the **.SMPPTS dataset, which is the SMP RECEIVE input.
  4. Review the information in the Quick Fix related to any HOLDDATA. Some Quick Fixes require additional actions following the installation.
  5. Go to your Mainframe agent ** JCL library for the smp/e jobs.
  6. Update and submit the SMPRECIV JCL library job from the Mainframe agent. The value should be cc=0004 or less.
  7. If necessary, follow the ++HOLD statements to complete before using APPLY on the PTF.
  8. Update and submit the SMPAPPLY JCL library job from the Mainframe agent. The value should be cc=0004 or less.
Note that the SMPAPPLY job is delivered with a CHECK, so once the job execution with the CHECK is successful, you need to manually remove the CHECK to execute the APPLY for the fix.
  9. If necessary, follow the ++HOLD statements to complete after using APPLY on the PTF.

NOTE: The fixes should always be applied in a lower environment for verification, then you can apply them in Production after thorough testing.
