How to: Manage user preferences

Overview

There are several options available for customizing your preferences. This guide provides detailed instructions on how to adjust everything from display settings to private messenger options.

Access your user preferences

1. Click My Settings from the drop-down menu under your avatar in the upper-right corner.

2. Go to the Preferences tab, click Preference Options, and select the settings you'd like to adjust.

Change your time zone settings

Start by clicking Preference Options, then select the appropriate Time zone from the drop-down menu.

Change your language settings

Begin by selecting Preference Options,'then click the Language drop-down menu and choose the language that best suits you.

Change your date display settings

1. Start by selecting Display from the Preferences drop-down menu.

2. Click the Date display format text box and enter your preferred format.

Note: Months are represented by the phrase "MMM," days are shown as "dd," and year is displayed as "yyyy."

Change your sort topics by settings

1. Begin by clicking General in the Preferences drop-down menu.

2. Select from one of the three options in the Sort topics by settings section.

Change your privacy settings

1. Start by clicking Privacy in the Preferences drop-down menu.

 2. To change who can see your private information in your profile, choose one of the four options in the Show private information in profile to settings section.

3. To change who can see your email address, select from one of the four options in the Show email address to settings section.

4. To change who can see your online status, select from one of the four options in the Show online status to settings section.

Change your private messenger settings

1. Begin by clicking Private Messenger in the Preferences drop-down menu.

2. To enable private messages or receive email notifications for new messages, check the appropriate box.

The Preferences page gives community members the ability to quickly access a variety of different settings they wish to change.
